Recurrence 2 looks at changes in how history is viewed as well as ruptures and transitions. It is about ambiguity rather than binarity, while our tendency is always to simplify reality, so that we can get a grip on it, but at the same time this is exactly the starting point for conflicts and polarisations of the kind that are again heating up the world’s political climate.

It is no secret that many painters love music. The titles of paintings are often linked to the title of songs. We show the jazz lover Ernst Weil, the salsa dancer and friend of Latin American music Gregor Hiltner, the New York artist Robert Szot, who obviously likes Bob Dylan, the painter and dancer Natascha Mann, the universal artist Reiner Zitta with "La Paloma", the lover of Improvisation Paul Schwietzke and painter and theatre director Adébayo Bolaji with "Small Faces".

The painter Heike Ruschmeyer has been dealing with images of people who have died violently since the 1970s. In her recent series "Black on White" she devotes herself to the subject of politically motivated attacks and assassinations. Based on press photos of the crime scenes, however, she mostly omits the victims here, leaving only the shot-up limousines or charred houses, the traces of violence, to speak for themselves. The painterly transformation gives universal validity to the images.

Since the early eighties, Helga Sophia Goetze has created a vast, fascinating universe of painted pictures, embroidered carpets, as well as daily written records. Galerie Pugliese Levi is delighted to present the first solo show in Berlin with recent paper works by artist and scenographer Claudia Doderer.

Though the base material is still the model board of earlier days, slightly colored, layered in so many different shades of white, what is of interest to Claudia Doderer today is the little, the pure, the contours, the shadow, the cautiously unwieldy, the quiet resistances.” (Gertrud Leutenegger, 2020)

Birgitt Bolsmann (1944-2000) consciously opted for a realistic visual language in 1973 after her university studies. In detailed oil paintings and pencil drawings she fixes her motifs, which she takes from fashion photography and striking advertising using them at the same time to critically question the image of women propagated.

Haus am Waldsee

Berlin Süd

At Haus am Waldsee, we have been delighted by Cragg‘s presence in the sculpture park for years. The sculptor rarely appears as a draughtsman. The exhibition shows works on paper from all creative periods since the 1980s and is complemented by selected sculptures. Cragg consistently makes micro- and macrocosmic transformations visible.
