The works of young Kiel-based artist Constanze Vogt shift between varied mediums. Her drawings, installations, objects and texts are all notable for their use of a reduced selection of materials. She uses and shapes materials such as paper, language and light in order to examine the subject of interposing spaces. The extensive, near-ritualistic working process with which she transforms the material is clearly visible in her finished works. Dr. Peter Kruska

In the chromatic large-scale prints of Julie Mehretu’s Slouching Towards Bethlehem at BORCH Gallery, the artist combines photogravure with classic intaglio printing techniques. The base layers are distorted news images from anti-immigration protests, blurred extensively to allow the subliminal forms, color, and light from the photos to merge with the complex compositions of agitated gestures and erasures which Mehretu executed in a variety of printing techniques.

The painter Heike Ruschmeyer has been dealing with images of people who have died violently since the 1970s. In her recent series "Black on White" she devotes herself to the subject of politically motivated attacks and assassinations. Based on press photos of the crime scenes, however, she mostly omits the victims here, leaving only the shot-up limousines or charred houses, the traces of violence, to speak for themselves. The painterly transformation gives universal validity to the images.
