The exhibition breaks new ground by devoting extensive attention to the Hungarian contribution to modern art in the German capital. Berlin was a formative influence for many Hungarian artists who, in turn, were a defining force in the art market. Restoring memories of this reciprocal cultural inspiration is the principal aim. It brings together paintings, prints, photographs and architectural drawings, deeply enriching our perception of artistic achievements from East Central Europe.

Lines are everywhere we look. For decades, the Line has inspired generations of artists – starting from Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich. In It’s all about the Line duo show, Maria Seitz and Daniel Schaal refer to the Line, transforming it into the central protagonist of the exhibition and creating a new perspective on geometrical abstraction. The show brings together the variety of mediums: painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation, – all unified by the Line.

Touch is a concept that creates a thread that connects the various parts of the presented project, even though none of the shown works allows it to "touch" itself directly. The whole story, in its pastel-minimalist form, unfolds among the trees that permeate every space where I move. The variety of touch portrays the experience of the world of flora and the intimate relationship with this ubiquitous
and diverse tissue.

Starting from his artist's book "In SHAPE" of 2022 with 1000 geometric drawings, which are summarized as a compendium, these in turn serve as a matrix for further series of artworks, which differ in technique and material. From computer-milled relief to lacquer works on Alu-Dibond or fire drawings, they show a wealth of possibilities that spring from Dave Grossmann's analytical system and are also characterized by high craftsmanship. A concert for the senses is generated!

For his photo sculptures, Marc Dittrich cuts his own photographs of modern skyscraper facades into fine strips and weaves them into new architectural surfaces. When the prints are interwoven, an offset is created in the motif, the original grid of the facade is shifted in itself. Material and motif combine to form a new architecture-like sculpture, a surreal hybrid of sober documentation and dynamic structure. This contrasts with the strict geometry of the original motifs.

His study of Black American Orientalism and martial arts reveals the complex relationship between the self and self-defence, addressing our contradictory desires to elude, defend against, and embrace Enlightened definitions of Man.

Großes Kino – we’re talking about cinema with a capital C, about motion pictures that leave you feeling overwhelmed or in awe. A good movie poster, too, is designed to be remembered: it captures the film’s mood, alludes to storylines, evokes feelings. The drama and narrative of a long film are condensed into a single image. The exhibition "Großes Kino" presents around 100 original movie posters from the 1900s through to the 2020s from the Kunstbibliothek’s collection of graphic design.
